Chinese New Year anyone?

Ok... abit of an lppl kind of heading because if you do not know that in 2days time, CNY will be upon us unless of course you happened to live under a coconut... must be huge coconut!

Yes the year of the tiger is upon us in 2days time and this year is abit special because valentine's day happens to fall on the 1st day of cny. That's probably why the roadside valentine gifts' sellers are out in full force today and maybe half day or maybe even the full day tomorrow. The profiteers from these two big celebrations must be cursing their luck that the celebrations are falling on the same day because that means people may choose to go for only cny instead of the usual fanfare associated with valentines day.

Today i heard from reliable sources that there was an incident at the 3rd mile market whereby a person got out of his car with a big piece of wood to smash the car window of a truck. What actually caused this incident was apparently this truck accidently backed into the car of the person with the wood. Another incident which is closer to home was when i was making a switch from the right lane to the left and there was a black kancil on the left lane who gave me a very 'garang' look when i gave her the chance to pass me before i turned into the left lane. She was wearing black by the way and i would say she was probably a mom on the way home maybe rushing to prepare dinner or rushing to get home to prepare for cny eve dinner which will take place tomorrow. While i was having lunch today at padungan i could hear the constant car horning happening around me. Someone probably double parked while rushing into a shop to get some cny stuff.

Such anger, frustrations and impatience on a period whereby we are supposed to gather together with out family members to celebrate our togetherness and welcome the new year which is supposed to give us prosperity throughout the year. I wonder what it was like back before i was born, i mean during my parent's early childhood or even my grandparent's day whereby there was no H&L, no Ngui Kee, no Everrise, No Spring, No Boulevard and no whatever shop or supermarket bombasting you on a daily basis with promotions of food items that we normally over buy and end up torturing ourselves to finish when the 1st few days of cny are over or worse, because we cannot finish the food, we give the leftovers to homes of the aged, lame, orphanages etc. I am no saint nor am i above any guilt from all the above but do we actually stop and think of what we are doing everyear when this season comes along....

So... Chinese New Year anyone?

  1. Andy, it sounds like age is catching up on you! Let's look at the positive side of things. At least we still have the atmosphere of celebrating whether it is CNY or Valentine day. Happy to see that the open house concept is really building community.
